PostSubject: About Time   About Time Icon_minitimeThu Sep 08, 2011 11:03 pm

I decided to start to look into making my own computer and this is what I've got so far:

Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131730

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115071

Video Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604

Hard Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148697

Memory(might make 2 orders of these):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021

Power Supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010

CD/DVD Drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

Aftermarket Heatsink:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233081

Thermal Paste:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007

Any tips? Anything I'm missing? Maybe more fans? Only thing I'm really worried about is the wiring and how I am going to make everything fit. I'm pretty sure everything is compatible with each other. I don't want to spend to much more than $1k.

Heres mine Pred that I made last year for you to compare. Seems a very similar set up to yours give or take a year of new releases. Still runs like a dream.

1 Intel Core i7 950 3.06Ghz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) Processor - Retail £ 199.15
1 Asus GeForce GTX 460 1024MB DirectCU GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £ 159.99
1 Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 PCI-Express Motherboard £ 131.99
1 1TB Seagate Barracuda ST31000528AS 3.5" SATA II Hard Drive - Recertified £ 41.50
1 Zalman GS1000-SE Special Edition Gaming Case (Black) £ 75.25
1 Sony Optical DVD Writer, AD-5260S-0B, SATA, Black, OEM £ 13.75
1 Patriot Viper Extreme Performance 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Triple Channel Kit £ 111.99
Items Total £ 733.62

Also a Corsair 850w Power Supply.

Heres my case, dunno if you can still get them, it's awsome though and lotsa room. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I got mine after Moonie had one for her new PC the year before. http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/pc-cases/gs1000-se

Awesome! Thanks shad!

I got a question about that new motherboard i posted the link to. I was reading about some other motherboards and saw reviews where people were complaining about the Sandybridge CPU and that's the one I'm getting.

You guys know if I am going to have any issues with that motherboard with my CPU?

It's just the motherboard that I'm not sure what to get :(

humm, personally I'd choose Asus over MSI, but then I've had both and never had probs with Asus stuff so it's probably just down to personal experience on that score.

I really don't know enough to make a specific recommendation for a board though. I'd just go for the most up to date one that gets decent reviews and recommendations from proper review sites rather than user reviews. Google's really your best friend on this kind of thing I think. (Just ensure the reviews are the more up to date ones too for the newer models).

I just googled 'ASUS P8Z68-V PRO Sandy Bridge' and checked out the reviews, that board does get high scores. It is still pretty new technology though so I guess inevitably there will be stuff still to iron out. That's inevitable though. Seems to me though that Mobo is made to work with that CPU though so I don't see a prob. Hmm, you could always write your concerns on the Aria forum, those guys are really helpful. http://www.aria.co.uk/

Also worth mentioning, the Ivy Bridge/Z77 's are on the horizon, in case you wanna wait or incase your choices become cheeper. Catch 22 really, you can never really keep up with them. bastards.

I'm probably gonna wait to buy everything until closer to christmas. Most stuff will be cheaper then and a lot more discounts and stuff like that.

Well, we get discounts before xmas. Then the closer to xmas it gets, the more the price rises for those last minute shoppers. Prices go down again after xmas.

I was on a $1k budget but went a couple hundred over lol

I've had bad experience with overheating so I want to make sure it's a cool machine.

I'd prefer if the stuff comes from newegg, I've gotten stuff from them before and they are great
