A Black Dog...

A black dog stands in the middle of an intersecton in a town painted black. None of the street lights are working due to a power failure caused by a storm. A car with two broken headlights drives towards the dog but turns in time to avoid hitting him. How could the driver have seen the dog in time?

because its during the day, where the natural light would let the driver see the damn dog ?

If the dog was in the middle of an intersection I would guess that the car simply turned left on its journey.

Ofc another good response could be that it is all irrelevant as a hunter painted black in black camo gear wearing nightsites and a funny deerstalker hat (the hat is key here) shoots the dog turning it into roadkill and making the whole swerving thing irrelevant.

how about I was in front of the other vehicle and since I care not for animal life upon the roads I had to swerve several times before I managed to run the mutt over?
